Ray Osrin was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 5, 1928. He studied at the Art Students League 1945-1947 and worked as a freelance comic book illustrator, television animator and ghost artist for several comic strips from 1945-1957. He then became staff artist for the Pittsburgh Press 1958-63. In 1963 he became staff artist at the Cleveland Plain Dealer and three years later he was named the paper's editorial cartoonist.
